Interior
Designer

Quackenbush Architects + Planners is seeking an experienced and talented interior designer to join our award winning practice. We specialize
in creative and thoughtful design solutions throughout the state of South Carolina. Q+ offers a well-balanced, holistic approach to work and

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with architects and other designers on projects at all design phases, including programming, schematic design, design development, and construction documents.

  • Develop compelling interior design concepts based on project context, history, or other key project goals or guiding principles.

  • Participate in presentations, both in-house and to clients, and assist in the preparation of presentation content and materials.

  • Produce design documents, including both drawings and detailed specifications, working independently or as part of a team depending on project requirements.

  • Manage schedules and budgets for interior renovation projects through design, bidding, and construction phases.

  • Design and detail custom casework and millwork in addition to other interior elements, including flooring, partitions, ceilings, etc.

  • Coordinate with engineers on building system,s including structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.

  • Conduct site visits as necessary for field investigation and during construction

  • Lead furniture procurement project,s including selecting furniture pieces and finishes, coordinating with vendors, and presenting to clients.

Required Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in educational, commercial, and/or institutional interior design.

  • Exceptional design sensibility with a commitment to creativity and attention to detail.

  • NCIDQ certification or actively seeking certification.

  • Extensive knowledge of interior materials and finishes, including an in-depth awareness of available products and their technical capabilities and limitations.

  • Familiarity with the International Building Code, ANSI 117.1, and other applicable codes.

  • Experience in producing quality construction documents and an understanding of building detailing.

  • Proficiency with Revit is required. Experience with 3D modeling and visualization software including Enscape and Lumion is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project teams at all design phases including programming, schematic design, design development, and construction documents.

  • Develop design concepts using sketches, drawings, renderings, and models.

  • Work directly with engineers and consultants during design to ensure coordination between disciplines.

  • Participate in construction administration including conducting site visits, preparing field reports, reviewing submittals, and answering contractor questions.

  • Communicate with project stakeholders including clients, owners representatives, consultants, contractors, and code officials to achieve overall project objectives.

  • Contribute to the collaborative culture of the design studio by participating in firm wide charettes and other office initiatives.

  • Engage in professional development and continuing education activities, and seek community leadership opportunities.

Required Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of relevant experience

  • Hold a professional degree in Architecture.

  • Registered Architect or actively seeking registration.

  • Problem solving abilities that lead to innovative solutions.

  • Excellent oral, written, and graphic communication skills.

  • Experience in producing quality construction documents and an understanding of building detailing.
